ESL (English as a Second Language): programs in Boston

  

The English programs at Approach are designed for students who need high quality lessons on a flexible supporting schedule and at affordable prices. Our core curriculum covers 12 general levels of instruction from beginner to advanced and includes grammar, reading, writing conversation, vocabulary, listening and pronunciation courses. Full time students attending 30 classes per week can complete one general level in as little as one month. Aside the core ESL courses, students can choose and add a great variety of elective class choices including grammar topics, pre-TOEFL, Accent reduction, Business English, American idioms, American literature, Song lyrics, American history and Pop culture among others.

 Program Highlights:

  • Conditional acceptance to partner universities;
  • Trips and activities chaperoned by our staff;

  • Unlimited use of library, computerized testing room, internet  and school resources during self study hours;

Course schedules: Approach is open for classes from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 8pm and Fridays until 6pm. Full time students can come in anytime before or after class, to use the library, computer room and internet, take tests, receive some extra help from their course coordinators and perform self study tasks. Class sessions start every month. Students can choose their own course schedules according to each program and change it if necessary. The current offerings are as follows:

 Full time students:

  • ESL 30: 30 classes each week (Mon-Fri from 9am-4pm)
  • ESL 24: 24 classes each week (Mon-Thu from 9am-4pm)

 Part time students:

  • ESL 16: 16 classes each week (Mon-Fri from 9am-1pm)
  • ESL 12: 12 classes each week (Mon-Thu from 9am-12pm)
  • ESL 08:  varies (inquire for current offerings)
  • ESL 04:  varies (inquire for current offerings)

Quality and flexibility at affordable prices

On your first day, you will complete your registration, get your student ID and materials, take a placement test and undergo an interview with an instructor to be placed in one of our 12 ESL levels. Then you will be enrolled in your grammar, reading, writing, conversation, vocabulary, listening, and pronunciation courses, will receive your materials and will be ready to start classes. Each skill class lasts 50 minutes. Full time students have six skill classes each day and then can choose to participate on school activities, stay in the library and do homework, meet with course coordinators for extra help or simply choose a good book and enjoy reading at the library.  This flexibility ensures you will have a full day and will be able to focus on the subjects that interest you most after class.

Specialty programs for advanced ESL Students

Upon graduating from the ESL program, students interested in continuing to learn English as a Second Language while focusing on specific academic or professional objectives can enroll on the following programs:

ESL VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE: Designed for students who would like to volunteer at an American company to improve business English writing and/or communication skills in a real-life setting while experiencing the American work environment.

ADVANCED ACADEMIC PREPARATION: Designed for students that require ESL support during the first and second semesters of enrollment in undergraduate or graduate level courses or while working on specific academic projects such as thesis, research, or a publication.

ESL TEACHING INTERNSHIP: Designed for advanced students of English and native speakers certified to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) and/or EFL (English as a Foreign Language) at private language schools in the USA and abroad and wishing to acquire teaching experience.
